Hello, Birdies!

The Truffle is in love with pajamas. So much so, that she bailed on the sweet puppy pocket robe I was going to make for her for Christmas and begged for another pair of PJs. I hadn't cut the robe yet, and so obliged.

This is my most favorite jammies/nightgown pattern. It is an out-of-print Simplicity done up in vintage flannel with a little birdie added on just for fun.
The little bird called to me from a marvelous little book, Doodle Stitching. It has delightful patterns, but more importantly, the author really sets you free to stitch anything you please. I'm finding myself much less inhibited with embroidery now. A very happy thing, indeed. Speaking of stitching, Alicia at Posie Gets Cosy is offering her delightful new tea towel designs as a free download. Happiness abounds!

Which simplicity pattern is it? That is really adorable :)

I couldn't find my pattern, but I found one on ebay. It's number 8488. What I love about this particular pattern is the neckline isn't a huge square that is always falling off the shoulder, and there are no gathers in the back, which makes it so simple to sew (just 2 flat back pieces) and comfy to sleep in, too.

Was it from 1998? I think I found one on Etsy, I might just have to buy it!

Out of curiosity, what did you do on the neckline? I read the instructions, and it calls for some sort of flexible lace, and single fold bias tape. Did you use either of these? I can't see any, but the pic's not big enough for that kind of detail. Just curious :D

I skipped the lace and made my own bias tape out of the same flannel to finish the neckline. The Truffle is sensitive (and whiney) about anything remotely scratchy. Thus, no lacey necklines round here.

Did you do the bias tape the same way, turning it to the inside? Or did you just do it around the inside and outside like a binding?

I turned it to the inside, but if you like the effect of a bias bound edge, then go for it. That's the beauty of sewing. You get to make it your own.

I got all my pieces cut last night, except for the pants, so I'm just about ready to get started. I think I'll just have to see when I get that far :) Thanks :D
